Jobs for native English speakers who want to go overseas and teach English as a second language are in strong demand. Teachers are especially needed in Latin America, China, and Mexico.
China has made amazing advances in the sense that English has made an impact in school from a young age, but most native Chinese teachers are over stretched, and still in the process of mastering the language. The government is hoping that in coming years there will be more TESOL Certified teachers from the USA and Canada to fill the ESL education gap.
In Mexico, it is not unusual for secondary school graduates to receive a full stint of ESL training, pass the class, but not actually be able to speak a lick of English. A lot of these problems and situations exist due to non-qualified teachers, and lack of English conversation in the classroom. The government is working to resolve this issue with a TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) to ensure non-native English teachers are qualified to teach ESL.
