American TESOL Institute’s VWLC, or Virtual World Learning Center is an area to study TESOL in an online three dimensional environment.
Advantages of this method include a more personalized approach to online classroom discussions, integration of online gaming into learning, reduction of carbon footprints, and learning how you as a teacher can utilize a VWLC for your own class.
Disadvantages include mandatory software downloads, out-of-date technology that students can not use to access the VWLC, and understanding the fundamentals of navigating in an online three dimensional environment.
Methods to creating a VWLC can be as simple as organizing group discussions into your existing VLC.
