Featured Infographic: Can I Use that Picture? The Terms, Laws, and Ethics for Using Copyrighted Images

One important digital skill students need to learn is how to use the images of others appropriately and respect copyright.  The flowchart below, Can I Use that Picture? The Terms, Laws, and Ethics for Using Copyrighted Images, by the Visual Communication Guy, helps students understand copyright, fair use, creative commons, and public domain. These four terms are important to know when using images in blogs, presentations, digital stories, or other digital content. Present to students a  few images from the web (include the url) and go through the steps in the flowchart to determine if that image can be used. They can compare the results with their peers.

Each week we scour the internet to find great infographics to share on our various social networks (@TESOL, @AmericanTESOL, and @ESLWebinars). Check out past infographics for teaching English with technology here.
