The Regata Storica in Venice is one of the most spectacular rowing races in all the world. The event begins with a colorful water parade where gondoliers dressed in historic costumes take the Doge (the chief magistrate of Venice or Genoa), his wife, and Venetian officials up the Grand Canal in 16th century-style boats.
