From July 10th to 16th, one of Turkey’s most exciting sporting events takes place, Kirkpinar. This is an oil-wrestling festival which takes place in dressed in Edirne, Turkey. The stadium will be packed to see the men who dress in kisbet, shorts made of cowhide. This sport has been around since 1065 BC when a famous wrestler named, Rostam, saved his people. The wrestlers are anointed with oil and must grasp each other. The winner is awarded the Kirkpinar Golden Belt and the title, Chief Pehlivan. Find out more about this event here.
