During these holidays, people honor and remember the dead. During Halloween, adolescents and teens dress up as scary creatures. We can engage our learners this season by teaching English with spooky themes, such as zombies, monsters, vampires, hauntings, and ghosts. Below are some resources to get you started with introducing these themes to your teens. Find audio recordings and short texts about haunted places on the <a href=\"http:\/\/themoonlitroad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Moonlit Roads site<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/theshadowlands.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shadowlands<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelchannel.com\/tv-shows\/the-dead-files\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dead Files<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.syfy.com\/ghosthunters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ghost Hunters<\/a> are great resources to find out about haunted places and their histories. You will also find lesson ideas, videos, and short readings.<\/li>\n<li>Your students will enjoy reading this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/phpr\/zombies_novella.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Zombie graphic novel<\/a>, which is free to download and read. Find <a href=\"http:\/\/info.marygrove.edu\/MATblog\/bid\/96665\/Common-Core-Resources-to-prepare-for-the-zombie-apocalypse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Common Core related activities<\/a> to go along with this novel.<\/li>\n<li>Then have your learners use this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scholastic.com\/goosebumpsgraphix\/makeyourown\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">graphic novel and comic maker<\/a> on the Goosebumps website to create their own spooky comics.<\/li>\n<li>Have your students plan for a zombie apocalypse. Find lesson plans and PowerPoint slides <a href=\"http:\/\/eslkidsgames.com\/2013\/03\/ESL-Zombie-Apocalypse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here<\/a> and on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachthemenglish.com\/2011\/06\/16\/the-zombie-apocalypse-and-its-role-in-the-elt-classroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Teach Them English<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Students can play the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urgentevoke.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Urgent Evoke zombie game<\/a> online where they have to solve problems like famine and viral outbreaks. Find lesson plans and resources for educators when you sign up for the game.<\/li>\n<li>Find a zombie-related curriculum, with videos and lesson ideas along with math and science activities at <a href=\"https:\/\/education.ti.com\/en\/us\/stem-hollywood\/zombies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">STEM Hollywood lesson plans<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Show students this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.business2community.com\/infographics\/history-halloween-costumes-infographic-0665114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">History of Halloween Costumes infographic<\/a> and have a discussion about what kind of costumes they would wear and how modern costumes are different than ones in the past.<\/li>\n<li>Students can create their own costumes.
