Sometimes, they are tempted to cut corners or copy and paste information from various web sources, such as Wikipedia. They often turn in essays, which I have to make sure are accurately attributed and not copied from other websites. Often, I find it easier to have my students do their own plagiarism checks before they turn in their essays and I check them. Below are several free websites for students and teachers to do plagiarism checks for free. Most require no registration, signups, or downloads and are free.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plagiarismchecker.com\/help-teachers.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Plagiarism Checker<\/a> was made for teachers to check if students copied papers from the Internet. They provide step-by-step instructions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paperrater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PaperRater<\/a> is a free checker for plagiarism that generates a report. They also do a grammar and spelling check.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quetext.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">QueText<\/a> is a free plagiarism checker, which supports multiple languages and doesn&#8217;t require registration.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/smallseotools.com\/plagiarism-checker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Small SEO Tools<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duplichecker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Duplichecker<\/a> provide unlimited checks with no registration for up to 1000 words.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepensters.com\/free-plagiarism-checker-for-students-online.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penster<\/a> allows up to 5 free checks a month without registering. If you register, you get more.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbworks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PBWorks<\/a> does require signup but is free and a great web tool for teachers and students to create collaborative wiki sites (similar to websites). Each page and essay can easily be checked for plagiarism with their partner <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dustball.com\/cs\/plagiarism.checker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dustball<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Learn about Plagiarism<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>TED ED Lesson Plan on <a href=\"http:\/\/ed.ted.com\/lessons\/the-punishable-perils-of-plagiarism-melissa-huseman-d-annunzio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Punishable Perils of Plagiarism<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Video: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TcbTz2D3-ZY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">5 Tips to Avoid Accidental Plagiarism<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plagiarism.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Plagiarism.org<\/a> has various resources for learning about plagiarism and preventing it.<\/li>\n<li>Turn It In has a great infographic about the <a href=\"http:\/\/turnitin.com\/assets\/en_us\/media\/plagiarism_spectrum.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">10 different types of plagiarism<\/a> with examples.<\/li>\n<li>Larry Ferlazzo has a collection of resources for learning about <a href=\"http:\/\/larryferlazzo.edublogs.org\/2009\/09\/21\/the-best-online-resources-to-teach-about-plagiarism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">plagiarism<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My students turn in essays on a regular basis.
