According to Buddhist and Taoist traditions, these spirits are hungry ghosts who wander through towns seeking to satisfy their desires.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:321\">The Chinese Ghost Festival, celebrated in the 7th month on the Lunar calendar, is a time to appease these spirits. People hang lanterns, float candles on water, and offer <span class=\"citation-0 citation-end-0\">paper models of worldly goods, food, and money.
