He freed all his slaves upon his death in 1799.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abraham Lincoln: <\/strong><br \/>\nThe 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln maintained the solidarity of the United States during the American Civil War, and presided over the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emancipation_Proclamation\" target=\"_blank\">Emancipation Proclamation<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Lincoln is also famous for a speech, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gettysburg_Address\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Gettysburg Address<\/a>, that stated the United States was born not in 1789, but in 1776 (referring to the American Revolution), conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
