The GIA is the mind's central processing unit for structure. It is the functional prerequisite for recursive thought and complex reasoning.
Metaphor: The Russian Dolls (Matryoshka)
Recursive Abstraction Engine: This is the ability to fit one doll inside another, infinitely, which generates hierarchy. In language, it allows us to put a phrase inside a clause, inside a sentence. This is why complex sentences are structurally sound.
Structure-Dependence Constraint: This is the rule that says, "You must always move the dolls together." Operations must be based on meaningful groups (structure), not just linear distance.
Universal Parameter Set (Π)
The finite set of innate settings that tune the GIA to specific environments:
- Reference Frame Parameter: Sets the preference for grounding concepts (e.g., Embodied-First vs. Symbolic-First).
- Argument Structure Parameter: Defines how thematic roles (Agent, Patient, Theme) are assigned in a language's underlying syntax.
- Logical Modality Parameter: Biases the system toward epistemic knowledge ("What *is* true") vs. deontic knowledge ("What *should* be true").
