Presidents DayPresidents’s Day, or Washington’s Birthday, is the celebration of two American heroes, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

George Washington:
Regarded as the father of the United States, George Washington was commander-in-chief of the Continental Army from 1775 to 1783, and presided over the writing of the Constitution in 1787.

In the Battle of the Monongahela Washington is known to have shown great courage after his commander was killed and army ambushed. He freed all his slaves upon his death in 1799.

Abraham Lincoln:
The 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln maintained the solidarity of the United States during the American Civil War, and presided over the Emancipation Proclamation.

Lincoln is also famous for a speech, the Gettysburg Address, that stated the United States was born not in 1789, but in 1776 (referring to the American Revolution), conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. He was assassinated on April 15, 1865.

Turkish EmblemIn 2011 the Ministry of National Education in Turkey, working to improve education with the Prime Minister to accelerate the learning of English, announced that the approach to language would be thoroughly revised, part of which would include a plan to hire 40,000 foreigners as language assistants in public schools.

Even though the lack of jobs available in the United States is stressful, it is causing more young Americans to take advantage of some really amazing opportunities, like teaching in Turkey. There are lots of great things about going to teach in Turkey. You are going to be living among the people and truly experiencing the culture or Turkey in a way that you never would have been able to if you weren’t working there. Best of all, you’ll be getting paid to explore cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.

Submit your resume to the the head of the ministry’s projects department, Ünal Akyüz to learn more about receiving an assistant teaching position in Turkey: uakyuz@meb.gov.tr

Coat of Arm HondurasThe great thing about taking advantage of an opportunity to teach in Honduras is that you will be able to learn about the life and culture of Central America. The main regions for teaching jobs include Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Tela, La Ceiba, and the Bay Islands; however, Honduras is one of the most dangerous destinations in the world to teach English abroad.

Currently, teaching English in Honduras carries a great risk. According to the United Nations, Honduras has the highest per capita homicide rate in the entire world. There is no governmental or police presence in many regions of the country, and thousands of Americans have been murdered, robbed, raped, and kidnapped.

In January 2012, the Peace Corps pulled out its volunteers while conducting an administrative review of the safety and security of its volunteers.

Coat of Arms MoroccoThere are very few countries in the world that seem to be more exotic than the African country of Morocco. The country is located in North Africa, though it is the only country in Africa that has not yet become a member of the African Union.

Like most African countries, the education system in Morocco use to be very depressed, something the government has been working really hard to rectify.

Plans to improve the education children received in Morocco started in 1956 when Morocco changed from being a French territory and was finally able to become a country. Despite the fact that Morocco suffered several economic setback over the last twenty years, they have continued to do all they can to make sure that the youth have the best possible education.

When you go to teach in Morocco one of the things you are going to find yourself struggling with is literacy. Despite the countries attempt to improve their education system, only slightly more than half of Moroccan adults are literate. The good news is that the Moroccan government’s determination to improve the education system makes the time that American educators spend working in the country pleasant.
