The country is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural which has long played a role in the politics of the country. Malaysia has its origins in the Malay Kingdoms, and went through a turbulent past. In 1965 it became the Malaysia we know today, and is considered one of the strongest growing economies in Asia with a consistent growth rate of 6.5% for almost 50 years. Traditionally, the economy has been fueled by natural resources, but it has begun to invest in other sectors such as science, tourism, commerce, and medical tourism.
