Recently we invited language teacher Nathan Hall (@nathanghall) to introduce us to New Westminster, BC, Canada.
Shelly: Which events are a must for visitors?
Nathan Hall: Stanley Park has to be the biggest single attraction. The Vancouver area is well known for its amazing natural beauty. Situated between mountains and the ocean, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this area.
Shelly: What are popular local dishes?
Nathan Hall: I wanted to say sushi at first since there seems to be a sushi restaurant on every corner, but I decided to go with something a little more local. Since we are on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, salmon is quite popular and is eaten in a variety of ways including the salmon burger.
Shelly: Describe activities your English learners enjoy!
Nathan Hall: I teach EAP students, so the expectation is quite different than in most language classrooms. One activity that has been successful with my students lately has been the shuffled listening exercise. It is similar to a jigsaw reading, but with pieces of audio mixed up. I did a more detailed post on the activity here.
Shelly: Thank you, Nathan Hall, for introducing us to New Westminster, BC, Canada!
