The Romance of the Imilchil Marriage Festival

The Imilchil Marriage Festival is an incredibly romantic event which takes place during September in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco . The festival is sometimes known as “September Romance” and is an annual event where women of the Aït Sokham and Aït Bouguemmaz tribes court their potential husbands. Nearly 30,000 people gather under tents for three days with their flocks, horses, and camels to celebrate, dress up, and dance for hours. A nod and a wink indicates interest, and letting go of a hand signals rejection. Learn more about the Imilchil Marriage Festival in Morocco.
