The Magic of the Cure Salee Festival in Niger

One of the most important festivals in West Africa, the Cure Salée (Salt Cure), which takes place September, 19-26th at In-Gall, Niger. The incredible events, include the Gerewol (a male beauty pageant), the Raume dance, and the Soro fights. During the Gerewol pageant, see the men of the tribe dressed in their ceremonial costumes and face paint. This is also a courtship ritual. During the Raume dance, the Wodaabe imitate the movement of the white egret bird. During the Soro fight, a panel of females judge the men who attempt to knock each other over with big sticks.
