Peru’s Virgin de la Candelaria Festival is a Saintly Celebration

One of the biggest festivals in Peru is the Festivity of Virgin de la Candelaria. This grand event takes place February 2 to 12th in Puno, Puro. The festival started in 1960. The festival is a celebration of the Virgen de la Candelaria, the patron saint of Puno. On the streets, you will see a colorful procession carrying the Virgen de la Candelaria statue from the church. One of the noteable performances is la Diablada, based on the legend about miners who were saved by the Virgin de la Candelaria. Find out more here.
