A Trip to the Past in Amsterdam

A Trip to the Past in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is an amazing city full of canals, historic museums, and windmills. I love winter in Amsterdam. That is when you see people ice skating in the canals. Amsterdam is also a city rich with history. You can visit Anne Frank’s house or see Van Gogh’s art. However, one of my favorite ways to travel back in time is to visit the Brown Cafe’s (bruin café) in the Jordaan District. Some of these Dutch pubs date back to the 1500s. The name is due to the wooden walls. You often will hear music and can relax with great beer, music, and snacks. Each of these pubs has an interesting history like the In ‘t Aepjen. This pub’s decor is full of monkeys, because in the past you could pay with monkeys brought back from your travels. Read this article to discover more about the history of these historic Dutch pubs.
