The Wife-Carrying Competition in Sonkajärvi, Finland

Finland, also know as the Land of the Thousand Lakes, is a beautiful place where friendly people find friendly people. Finland also has one of the most fun and unique championships, the Wife-Carrying World Championships. This competition has taken place since 1992 inspired by a famous wife-stealing from the past, and also by an infamous robber named Rosvo-Ronkainen from the late 19th century who made potential crew members compete in an obstacle course carrying heavy sacks on their backs. Over 40 couples participate with 10,000 plus visitors.
