SPIRITUAL EXISTENTIAL INTELLIGENCE
Spiritual existential intelligence is also referred to by others as “cosmic” or “spiritual” intelligence. In essence, existential intelligence is the ability to use intuition, thought, and meta-cognition to ask and answer deep questions about human existence.

The theory of multiple intelligences, developed by Howard Gardner, proposes the differentiation of human intelligence into specific modalities rather than defining intelligence as a single, general ability.

Gardner's followers hypothesized a spiritual/existential intelligence type that has the capability and perception concerning abstract philosophies, plus a moral intelligence type that has the capability and perceptions to understand ethics, humanity, and the value of life. The original seven intelligence types are measurable, but these additional human capabilities of perception and attunement are highly subjective, overlapping in many complex ways.
Integrating Spiritual Existential Intelligence in ESL Teaching:

By tapping into students’ deeper questions about life and existence, ESL instructors can encourage meaningful discussions that build vocabulary and critical thinking. Teachers can create prompts or reading activities related to cultural beliefs, philosophical perspectives, or moral dilemmas to strengthen language skills while engaging a learner’s sense of wonder and introspection.
