Featured Book! Tasks Before Apps: Designing Rigorous Learning in a Tech-Rich Classroom by Monica Burns

Welcome to a new series where we feature great books for language learners and teachers. This month we are featuring the book, Tasks Before Apps: Designing Rigorous Learning in a Tech-Rich Classroom, by Monica Burns. Education Technology consultant and author, Monica Burns, wrote this book to share strategies, tools, and insights to help teachers effectively incorporate technology in the classroom. The book focuses on the “three Cs” – creation, curiosity, and collaboration. Many of the tasks and apps help language learners enhance all 4 skills- reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Your students will learn how to communicate on posts and message boards and locate credible information on search engines.

Helpful features for English language teachers include:

  • Customizable checklists and graphic organizers for planning tech-enabled activities
  • Recommended apps and online resources that facilitate and energize learning
  • Reflection and brainstorming questions

Each week we scour the internet to find incredible books to highlight on our various social networks@TESOL@AmericanTESOL, and @ESLWebinars. Check out our past favorites here.
