The Philippines offers island living with friendly locals, amazing beaches, and a laid-back lifestyle that many teachers love. While Tagalog is the national language, most locals are able to converse in English, and it is used in all schools- public and private. Teaching jobs can be found in the larger cities, and volunteer opportunities can be found on the smaller islands. Home to 99 million people the Philippines has an additional 12 million people that live and work overseas making it one of the world’s largest diasporas. It was part of the Spanish Empire for more than 300 years and went through several different occupancies during World War I and II and declared it’s independence from United States at the end of World War II. This democratic country is considered a middle power, and a founding member of United Nations, WTO, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and East Asia summit.
