The Philippines offers island living with friendly locals, amazing beaches, and a laid-back lifestyle that many teachers love. While Tagalog is the national language, most locals are able to converse in English, and it is used in all schools- public and private. Teaching jobs can be found in the larger cities, and volunteer opportunities can be found on the smaller islands. A good time to start looking for jobs is in May just before the start of the school year. This country is known for its warmhearted nature, so make sure to pack a smile and lots of jokes.

The Philippines is a sovereign Island country in South East Asia and consists of 7,107 islands. Geographically the islands are divided into three groups Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Home to some of the world’s greatest biodiversity the Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is very close to the equator, which makes it prone to earthquakes and typhoons. Home to 99 million people the Philippines has an additional 12 million people that live and work overseas making it one of the world’s largest diasporas. It was part of the Spanish Empire for more than 300 years and went through several different occupancies during World War I and II and declared it’s independence from United States at the end of World War II. This democratic country is considered a middle power, and a founding member of United Nations, WTO, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and East Asia summit.
