Suriname - Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions
Suriname, situated on the northeastern coast of South America, is predominantly covered by dense tropical rainforest, accounting for about 95% of its land area. This vast rainforest is home to a rich biodiversity, including diverse flora and fauna. The country's northern coastline borders the Atlantic Ocean, featuring sandy beaches, mangrove swamps, and mudflats. Inland, the terrain transitions to rolling hills and the Guiana Highlands, where several rivers originate, including the Courantyne, Maroni, and Suriname rivers. The highest peak, Julianatop, reaches 1,230 meters above sea level. While the coastal plain is relatively flat and fertile, the interior remains largely untouched wilderness, contributing to Suriname's unique and ecologically significant landscape.
