Close to Taipei City, Taoyuan City, located in northwestern Taiwan, encompasses a diverse topography with mountains, plateaus, and alluvial plains. The southeastern region features the Xueshan Range with interconnected mountains and plateaus, while the northwestern part extends towards the Taiwan Strait. The Taoyuan Plateau, known for its numerous irrigation ponds, gives the city its nickname "Thousand-pond Township." The Nankan River is the largest river in the city, flowing northwestward, and there are several other rivers and creeks contributing to the region's unique hydrology and ecological diversity.
